Chit Chat and All That...

I just watched the premiere of the final season of The 100 (was kind of meh). I can't even put it into words how much I want to go into cryosleep.

@Lurius don't give up the writing. It won't be easy to write a novel whilst having tinnitus, but people have done it before, eg GP Taylor wrote Shadowmancer and has bad tinnitus. I'd never heard of him until I got tinnitus, but he's done quite well out of writing.

I'm determined to write a book myself, but for YA.

Ooo! What genre?
Probably spying.

I would like to write a book for a younger audience also, but that would be different. I have a good, I think, idea for a superhero too.

These are long-term goals, but how realistic they are with tinnitus is another question. I need to start reading much more first.

I just want to leave something behind...

That's good! YA spy/espionage books are rare. Despite author's like Alley Carter making it beloved and popular. There was a brief comeback, but only a few books in the genre.

So, middle grade/independent reader? The superhero genre has been putting out some pretty good stuff too, but it's not over populated yet.

I feel you on the reading more. I'm still struggling with that thanks to tinnitus.

"I just want to leave something behind..." is a great mindset for writing a book. Would you just go self pub or try to get a deal with a traditional publishing house?

Are they really rare? I only really know of the Alex Reid series, but have never read any of them.

The book for youngers ones wasn't going to be about a superhero, but on another theme. The superhero idea I cant place agewise.

I would try and get a deal with a traditional publisher. I could publish on Amazon etc, but I like real books... old fashioned! But all this is a long way off, first things first.

What makes a good YA novel in your opinion? I'm surprised you have never tried writing one as you are such a prolific reader.

There's also the Young Bond books, which is about a teenage James Bond in the thirties.
I should really read these, but I don't want to be influenced by other books.

I know what my basic story would be, but it needs filling out... LOTS!

Have you read them? What makes a good YA book for you?

I haven't read them. I don't read a lot of YA really, sorry. @Shera is more part of that scene.

There's nothing original under the sun. People will find such similarities regardless. Just don't be a plagiarist.

I've never read YA either, but I need to start ASAP. I just like the idea of giving them to my sons to read. I could try and write it for adults, but it doesn't fill me with the same enthusiasm.

You're right, nothing is truly original. I just don't want to pick up on ideas and not be able to let them go.

Hey guys! Just been busy doing some gardening and outdoor projects.
My finger and hand still hurt... ughhh. But not as bad. It is just that I keep using it... lol. :wacky::inpain::LOL:

These days, I'm just watching Without a Trace. Just started from season 1 and now on chapter 13. Was also watching Tiny House Living... haha. Like I can fit all my crap in one of those. :cautious::eek::LOL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Glad the weather is finally nice! :)

How's everyone doing?

THE DIRE SERIOUSNESS OF THIS CONDITION:

CNN reported today on Memorial Day:
"An Active Duty Service Member or Veteran dies by suicide almost once an hour,
officials say."
This totals 8,760 per year.
Given the colossal, continuous noise levels these service people have been exposed to,
to what degree was intrusive tinnitus a factor?

Any of you guys play video games? (Aside from @Shera, I mean. :p)
I play on the site Steampower.com. Love the games Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne. There's a lot of games there that look good. I just don't have much time to play.

I have a "Game Cube'" :D:p:LOL:

Once is back! :LOL::LOL::huganimation:

Glad to hear that you're feeling a bit better, and that gardening is going well.

I'm ok. Job at Wal-mart is going fine.

Are they really rare?
That might have been strong wording. Good ones are rare, but the genre still is really populated like some of the others.
I only really know of the Alex Reid series, but have never read any of them.
Hmmm, never heard of these. Googled it and could only find a steamy romance book. :cautious:;)
The superhero idea I cant place agewise.
I've read super hero ones in all age groups. It's one that can be boundless you just have decide what kind of content. To be honest love my adult ones. Whether they're humorous or gritty. YA has really been putting out some good ones.

I would try and get a deal with a traditional publisher. I could publish on Amazon etc, but I like real books... old fashioned! But all this is a long way off, first things first.
Are you familiar with landing an agent through queries, and then having that agent push your book? I'd suggest watching some YouTube videos on it. Self pub you can still do print, but it's pricey cause you have to order a huge amount. So you'd go E-version first and then print later. Yeah, gotta write first. That's my problem.

*cough* Too many things can make or break a great read. But one of my favorite thing about older YA was a lack of the love triangle as we know it. Not to mention a female lead could date around and have relationships outside of instalove, secondary characters, friendship, and well fleshed out world building no matter the genre. :cautious::cautious::cautious: I have. Tons of short stories. And VERY, VERY, rough drafts of novels. Since tinnitus I've had an idea I like for a horror fantasy. And a Alternate world Urban Fantasy. I started my draft on the latter.

Yes! I've meant to try them. I read the original bonds way back when. I like the idea, but I can't commit.

I've been outed!!!! Ha-ha!

Ah, gardening and out door projects. That's been keeping me busy too! I love it!

I feel you on the finger. :grumpy:Dislocated mine a week ago and it's still so touchy.

Man, I forgot about Without a Trace. :)I use to love that. I recently started up Desperate House Wives. I missed it when it was hot (not for judgemental reasons at all . . :cautious: ) and I'm really enjoying it right now. I feel you on those Tiny Houses. :X3:I love the idea, but . . . . I don't think I could fit all of my books in one. Let alone my other stuff!

Enjoy that weather!

It does make you wonder.

@Shera I meant Alex Rider - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Rider

I'm old and get confused easily :(

I will read the first one and no more. I don't want to be influenced by the work of others. Plus when I see that someone has already done something along a theme I like I immediately think "Well what's the point? It's been done already", and i've got to stop thinking like that.

No, not familiar with it. I don't want to get ahead of myself. Writing the book comes first, everything else can wait.

I'm a perfectionist, but it kills output. I need to get over this somehow.

Really, take your draft and write a novel, regardless of how good or bad it is. We only learn from our experience and mistakes. Easier said than done.

Would love to give those a read sometime. ;)

Nah. I think I read the first book at some point, but didn't care for it. *shrugs*

I'm just obsessed with everything to do with book publishing! But that's a great mindset.

I get this. Especially with writing.

My issues is for reading and writing I need to get over T. *sighs*

Ah, that's very nice of you. Honestly I never let anyone read my work! Rarely. The only thing I've let anyone read was this thing for one of my goodreads group where I wrote a satire type short about a fierce version of Tinker Bell. AKA my version of Tinker Bell had a potty mouth and was planning to assassinate pirates. :D

You can't just bring that up and not give a link, lol.

This show is my guilty pleasure. And I don't follow many shows.

I think The 100 is probably one of the most surprising shows. I remember watching season 1 and not being too impressed, but stuck it out. The boom!!! :rockingbanana:

The 100 is really underated.

I also, :cautious::cautious:, really like The Outpost. I know that one is so spotty. Now that's my guilty pleasure I know I should probably be ashamed of.

@OnceUponaTime and @aot

Wow, thanks for the interest. Unfortunately I was very stupid. Our group was too adult and it was back before Goodreads had the private feature so we got deleted. I don't know what happened, but I only had the story posted there. For some reason I didn't save it. I'm really sad that I didn't now, and I don't even want to attempt to try it again. Because at the time I wrote it, it was like magic! I don't think I could duplicate it.

Aw, that sucks Shera. :huganimation:
The least Goodreads could've done is given you a warning or something.
