Retigabine (Trobalt, Potiga) — General Discussion

I went out to eat lunch with some guys for work at a buffalo wild wings (which for those not in the US is a sports bar) it was packed and there was decently loud music... I've been here several times since gettting tinnitus and it would get really reactive for a couple hours afterward... just got back and I'm sitting in my relatively quiet office right now and there is nothing, no sounds at all

That's great information! But, please, I hope you're still wearing earplugs. The drug won't reverse hearing damage; it just stops your brain from reacting to it.

hi Jazz,

this place isn't loud by normal people standards... I could hear people at my table talking easily over the music... its just the sort of volume that has caused by t to become reactive... if anyone is wondering I definitely have/had reactive t but I never experienced the hyperacusis symptoms of noise causing physical pain to my ears though

sorry to beat a dead horse here, but something else to report...my t was reactive.. anytime I went to loud public places, etc it would get louder and I got a shearing sound on top of my usual tinnitus, I went out to eat lunch with some guys for work at a buffalo wild wings (which for those not in the US is a sports bar) it was packed and there was decently loud music... @Mpt
I can fully understand you. "Enjoy the silence" - my favorite song from Depeche Mode. :whistle:
How long do you plan taking this drug?
Question would be if it has a long-lasting effect once you taper off?

Wow...that's really amazing! Good for you man!!! What a life changer!!

Agreeing with @Grace . Please bee careful with this.
Yeah i mean life without T yeah definally great but say for example there was a T drug to 100 % cure it, yet there was a 2% or maybe a lil bit more of a chance that it would destroy your eye sight for good, then obviously they're people out there that are blind or close to it from the side effects of this drug that would tell you to not use it. Sight is precious, not worth risking unless its a life/death situation and your gonna die unless you dont take this drug kind of thing. Just being on this drug would make me habutate to T if it worked or not cause my mind would be consumed on the question omg am i gonna go blind?

Why not wait until autifony or am101 comes out with less side effects! This drug gives me a bad feeling
I personally would take almost any side effects to get some relief from this noise. The side effects for me from T, are terrible! I guess it depends on how much destruction T has caused you.

Even a permanent side effect worse then T?!

What is worse than Tinnitus? That's a personal call in my opinion. There are HORRIFIC potential side effects to taking AD's, I won't list or provide links as people seem to get VERY defensive here. Yet people take them all the time for relief. It's a balance act...risk vs return. And again, I think that is a personal call that depends on many different (personal) variables.

@Telis

I agree. Taking that drug is a personal choice. Everyone's symptoms and ability to tolerate them are different, and only individuals can decide if that drug's risk/reward ratio is worth it.

To me, it's not worth it; but I understand others feel differently.

I'm just glad I found that FDA sheet so that the side effects are available to everyone.

Knowledge is power, if if that knowledge is incomplete.:)

Totally understand, its definally a personal call. Im not getting defensive either.. Was just stating my opinion :) im sure some will agree, and some will disagree and rather take a gamble on it, but like you said AD's have alot of serious potential side effects also so i guess it goes with anything. If blindness or loss of vision was one of the side effects of my AD, i would never take it thats all. I Wish everyone and Mpt the best of luck though!!!!

I'm pretty sure blurred vision is listed as a potential side effect on your Ads. To me, that sounds like a loss of vision! Just sayin

Wait ? Yeah , sure ..I will "wait" some more. :p
Kidding aside , I am kinda desperate here , rather be blue and happy then just blue.
I'd definitely try this. I highly doubt the probability of blindness as a side affect. I feel less like if this drug truly blinded people there would be more press about it.

@Mpt , did you notice a decrease in tinnitus severity right away from taking the drug? How long did it take for you to notice a difference? What other effects did you have, etc.? I'm curious if a short term low dose of this could help people and wonder if T would stay down after stopping the medication. Because taking it for a few weeks at a low dose for a lasting effect is one thing, taking it at a high dose long term when there's this: http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/ucm372774.htm
...is another.

@Mpt

So glad you have found some relief, I can only imgine how amazing it feels. Can you tell us if you had noise induced tinnitus? And how loud was your tinnitus?...like could u hear it over the shower before or the tv etc etc Was it one of both ears?

Thanks in advance xxx

Rhea

Blurry vision that will probably subside when getting off the drug, but from reading permanent blindness thats irreversible is scary. Thats all, the probability of it is probably low but i wouldnt risk it thats all.

Where are you reading about this permanent blindness that is it irreversible? I read the side effects, I don't see this. I read about possible pigment color change in the eye that may or may not be reversible. Are you coming to your own conclusions? Or am I missing something? If I'm missing something, can you please send me the link?

Hi rhea,

Mine was from getting my ear syringed, about 2 hours later while standing in the shower a siren went off in my ear... after onset the shower was pretty much the only time during the day I didn't hear it after that.. I heard it pretty much everywhere else 24/7... another day of silence I know his isn't habituation--- the sound has pretty much been abolished I haven't heard anything all day

Hey Mpt, have you had it come back at all? Fade in and out? Or is it completely vanished with no signs from the start?

Im not coming to my own conclusions, it states right on that link that it can cause possibly irreverible vision that is permanent. And if some one is thinking about taking this that would actually care about that and not risk it, then thats all im saying. Anyone that doesnt care, then best of luck! :)
