South Korean Clinic Treatment (Dr. Minbo Shim)

For what it is worth, I had an intra-tympanic injection in one ear earlier this year (corticosteriod). The ENT told me that eardrums heal fine from a needle going through them 99 percent of the time. She looked at me one week later to make sure I was not part of the one percent. A week later she said it had healed fine and that was the end of it, I was part of the 99 percent.

For the injection, they put a camera in my ear and projected it on a large TV screen, so I was able to see the needle going into the eardrum in large projection full color. Quite a show.
Sounds gross though lol.

Hearing does not deteriorate as we age, we just damage it on daily basis.
Is that not semantics?
what I mean is wear, noise damage, ageing, it all is the same outcome. Hair cells that do not function any more or are not there any more. I do realise that there is much more to hearing than only hair cells and nerves. But still I wonder if there is any data about people that have grown old in quit/noise free surroundings. Where do you find these people nowadays?
Do they still have pristine hearing?

More updates:
Dr. Minbo Shim is really public. This makes me even more curious. It appears he even talks about regeneration in some of these posts.

Very strange. For someone who may or may not be a fraud, he sure does like to expose himself to the world. Pages and pages worth of stuff here.

I don't know what to make of this. I have little experience with scam artists, so I have no idea what to say. If he really is a scam artist, he surely is a strange one, because he has exposed himself too much. Eventually it would catch up to him.

I hope this guy is legit,I gathered the money to do a Stemcell treatment but I'm just waiting for a genuine clinician who wants to help to treat me.I have to do it,I can't live like this anymore. My own voice even whispering makes my ears roar up and set on fire!
I'm watching this with heavy scepticism and a lot of hope too.

Regardless of who brings it, treatment will come. I cannot imagine what kind of pain hyperacusis is, but I have faith that treatment will eventually arrive. Tne medical reports that I have recently seen from this site have made me very optimistic.

I expect that we will have an actual answer of his legitimacy within the coming days. If not, there should be clinical trials from other companies soon. I think that congress's new bill will also accelerate medical progress.

I hope your right,I got severe H at the beginning of this year, over the first few months it improved very slightly but I have had quite a few insults since then like people laughing loudly etc.

Anyway I had no choice but to go to the dentist a week ago,I had a dying tooth and he pain was unbearable!!Anyway I'm in a living hell since then and I'm getting beyond desperate!I have no measurable hearing loss according to my audiologist so I don't know what to do anymore.

It absolutely will!

A part that I find particularly exciting is the $1.56 billion dollars being poured into mapping the human brain. This will absolutely have an impact on hearing/tinnitus research as a lot of tinnitus research points towards misfiring in or around the auditory cortex.

In addition, we are looking at a more lax USFDA regulation on clinical trials (which we all hate, hah!), mainly that the USFDA would:
Rely on data summaries and "real world evidence" instead of hard clinical trial evidence when weighing the approval of existing drugs for new uses. Right now, for example, the FDA now must consider "patient experience" and anecdotal data in its review process.[\QUOTE]

I have been optimistic that treatment would be available in 5 years. Does this mean it would accelerate to 2 and a half yesrs? xD

Well if we keep seeing great research and more clinics offering regeneration of some sort; I forsee myself with the next 5 years 100% getting some kind of treatment.

Can see you guys are more positive then me i believe we would see sometime around 2030 :)

The thing is, hearing loss has already been cured, on mice, in multiple ways. This means that it is not that far off. The new 21st Century bill will also accelerate things. It will be here soon. I don't see it being a decade, I think that when scientists say that, they just give that as a "Don't know, not too soon, but not too far. Depends on the abilities of me and my team."

Also: In looking more through Shim's clinic Facebook page, he supposedly has a certification from the "South Korean Ministry of Heath & Welfare", but strangely it is in English.
He also has some photos of himself and a lot of other Asian men and women in suits. https://m.facebook.com/pg/cmclinics...d=1724816511122832&ref=page_internal&mt_nav=1

Geez this guy is really active. Supposedly in some Stem Cell organization. Went to California for a week for Stanford, and supposedly other places. I think Russia too?

If this really is some kind of scam, it's a crazy one. How would he be able to afford all of this?

Russia Today interview. Dozens of testimonials written just about every other day (many being video). A lot of people standing with him in suits. Animated graphic video. Trips to California, supposedly Russia, and perhaps other places. All those medical tools on his YouTube channel. All of this, and more, would be very expensive.

I just don't understand. I keep getting mixed vibes from this.

@Artemis2K Russians are one of the most common visitors on South Korea for medical "tourism". Whole bunch of conditions are treated in South Korea on very good if not top notch level due to their high advances and standartization in technology. Most of their clinics do have state of the art MRI scanners, surgery equipment that is not always available everywhere in Russia yet. I don't think I am concerned of him being liar or scam artist at this point, I just want to see if there is any way of me doing something in preparation to this procedure to multiply chances of success. I am not able to get that info from him.

I think we should focus on trig to figure out what exactly is happening here and how "repair/regeneration" is really done here, just mechanism at least with some legit explanation.

P.S.

It would be cool to see if whoever had Tinnitus for some time and developed Visual Snow syndrome, had T cure with this and Visual Snow faded away as well (eventually). It is understood that audio cortex in the brain is crossing with visual(optical) cortex and since T is basically "static disturbance" visual/optical cortex inherits this issue and Visual Snow as result of that becomes bothersome to sufferer. If Tinnitus is cured and auditory cortex comes back to normal, video/optical cortex should calm down to norm as well....? At least this is how I understand it.

This is exactly what I miss here, I just don't understand why the hell dr Shim does not want to reveal more details about mechanism of his treatment, which growth factors does he use and in generał more scientific background. There are 2 possible causes. Either he is super cautious to protect his knowledge and methods so that nobody copies it, or he is aware that his method is a BS and would be questioned right away by medical community.

Yeah... I wonder: why doesn't he patent it? That is the way to protect it.

I just looked that up... I have had Visual Snow Syndrome all my life... I thought that was just normal.

I'm not sure about the hype surrounding snow vision. When I close my eyes, I see things. It has always been the case and when I was a kid, it was a joyful source of inspiration for my imagination ;)

It was never a problem and will never be. The perfect dark doesn't exist I guess. Just like perfect silence.

Those who have a real problem with "snow vision" see things they shouldn't during the daytime.

I know everyone is over the Shim talk on this thread but he doesn't look like the face of scammer to me. He seems to be well respected and has a lot of pride in his work. If he were scammer, he would keep this treatment a little more on the DL and be more aggressive trying to sell to individuals. Most importantly, the last thing he probably wants is another country to mimic his therapy.

I want to point out that it is crical for everyone to stay cautious. This is all still a mystery. The questions of why he isn't world news or that well known on the internet are valid.

The whole thing is definitely strange. As I have said, for someone who may or may not be a scam artist, he has a lot of digital footprints, and activity around the world, such as Russia, India, America, etc. In his trips he has visited a lot of other doctors, including those within the Heller Lab, and has presence in what seems to be a lot of Stem Cell studies/gatherings/organizations. It also appears he may have won awards and obtained government certification for his clinic.

I think I would say that I have extreme confidence that he really is a doctor. He sure does act like one, his digital footprints sure do seem to indicate that, and so do his travels. He seems like a very active ENT, and I would not think he would want to destroy his hard work and education through fraud. It seems very convincing, and perhaps obvious, and yet my cynicism is making me want to have more solid evidence.

I have gone through further steps to get to the truth, and I will let you know as soon as I obtain any relevant information.

I don't know how this all works, but I would expect that if he really was legitimate he would have gotten the press to make his name known and his treatment. That way he could have made the history books and be well known. People may mimic his treatment, but they wouldn't be able to take away his contribution to science.

This is why everything troubles me. Everything does not add up and the signals are mixed. Unless, I suppose, he wants the glory of helping people directly first before he makes announcements. But that seems irrational.

Yes, on certain islands where tribes live just like 500 years ago it's the case.
Really? link? I would have thought that strain contributed to age related hearing loss, but that it happened naturally to an extent too, like eye vision I think gets worse with age from both usage (strain) and age related degeneration.

What's so special about this guy?
Is he actually performing treatments on patients or is just another researcher?

I read about his meeting with Heller at Stanford, didn't really see any reason to get too excited about it or am I missing something?

http://cmclinics.com
& (use Google Translator) www.updatemed.com

These websites claim he is treating people. The updatemed link updates a lot. They claim to have treated a lot of people with success. Even having success at 20 dB loss reduction with some people. Have said to be able to treat those with Meniere's disease, and I believe help hyperacusis too. :/

The frustrating thing is that things are so strange and don't add up. He possibly could be a fraud but I keep finding things that make me believe otherwise. The only thing I am strongly certain about is that he is an ENT that likes to travel a lot, meet other doctors, and attends Stem Cell related meetings. I am also certain that, based on his digital footprints, he would be putting a lot at risk with Korean law enforcement and his reputation would be shattered if he was a fraud.

His clinic has appeared on Russian media, and even has an address that matches Google Maps & Earth and the pictures. It also has a phone number.

Unfortunately I do not have anything to strongly say that he is the real deal. How he is presenting his supposed cure to the public also do not make sense to me. This is why I am so confused and frustrated. If he is a fake, he is making such a huge gamble with what success he does have, and isn't even being discrete with it either. Everything about this points to his name. He wouldn't last long very long by design if he was a fake.

So I am still wondering what is going on, and have reached conspiracy theory territory.

But if he turns out to be real, I am going to feel incredibly icky. I have never invested so much time looking someone up before. I would also be relieved that nobody would be getting their hard earned money scammed away, and happy that people could actually possibly get help.

Then my question would be whether or not it would be a safe treatment, not if it was a legitimate treatment.
