  • Practicing new ways of "relaxing." Bedtime & T, TV & T. Just have 2 heal from this minor pain that comes & goes. T is loud while I'm in bed.

@4Grace I think my baseline might not be bad, but I never hear it because it reacts to everything. Sometimes it's a few minutes, sometimes an hour depending on how long I was exposed to the sound. It's usually broadband sounds that get me.
    Mo8409
@4Grace Don't discredit yourself and your feelings! They're valid. If your family put themselves in your shoes they would struggle too. This is hard, very hard to deal with. Everyday is different and mine gets louder too at times. This can destroy your in the beginning. It's getting to the habituation is the hardest. You're doing great!
    4Grace
    Thank you
I can either cry all day or get up and get out. So let's get moving. Taking my nieces and daughter to the beach instead. Love you all ❤️

@Strawberryblonde Isn't that the truth. I'll have to find a hobby once the snow starts. Any suggestions?
    Mo8409
@Ngo13 It really does cancel it out quite a bit doesn't it?

When faced with the challenges of tinnitus, I found solace in playing free slots on my iPad. It was a way to distract myself from the ringing and soothe my mind. I persisted until exhaustion gave in, and sleep took over. I did this for several months.
Why is it so hard to find people with ear pain and Tinnitus? Is it not related? My ears feel inflamed.
    Mo8409
@MadeleineHope Thank you! I always have a pair in my pocket. I also have ginger tea waiting for me! I bought a root after talking with you. I'm going to try it this afternoon ❤️ I need to download a sound app that can measure db. How are you doing today?
    Mo8409
@MadeleineHope It's been like this since day 1 when Tinnitus started. It was worse in the beginning but seemed to of gotten a little better. I find it weird that my ears and hearing are healthy but I still get all of the above with Tinnitus. Yesterday was a learning lesson when there was an emergency called in the hospital and as I was working on the patient he then yelled in my ear.
    Mo8409
@MadeleineHope I wanted to die right there and then. So from now on I'll always wear ear plugs when hitting the hospital floors. How's your hyperacusis doing?!
Where are you from? And try to do stuff that keeps you're mind occupied that seems to help me focus on those things and not the noise talking to people on the phone you know. Or just something to keep myind from.thinkimg bout that

I'm from Detroit, Michigan. Yeah keeping busy does help. I work and then try to keep busy outside since it's summer time. Every once in awhile I take little breaks and practicing on how to "relax" and watch TV without frustration. This will help for the winter months since it's almost impossible to stay busy 24/7. How long have you had T for? What caused yours?
    M
For about 20+ years with. I stay in Arizona that's the good thing we have a lot of sun here. And happy birthday!!! Almost the big 40 that's good.

I attended the 2007 auto show in Detroit and had the most memorable cab ride ever. I was staying in Dearborn and took a cab to the MGM. On the way back, the cab driver got lost, and we ran out of gas at the top of the off-ramp. I had to get out and help push the cab to a nearby gas station. Then, the driver asked me to pay for half of the fare since he had no money for gas. I have told this story 100 times.
Trying to watch TV and "relax" nothing like listening to your T & tv at the same time. What am I gonna do during the cold months? Ah
Ear pain is trying to make a comeback. Hopefully as time goes on the pain eventually goes away. I feel like my ears are burning.
    MadeleineHope
@Mo8409 My hyperacusis is unfortunately on the severe side; many sounds, even some really quiet sounds, cause me pain & can decrease my sound tolerance. I'm essentially homebound, so it's incredibly tough.
    MadeleineHope
I use fresh ginger & boil for at least 10 mins on the stove. You can boil longer if you wish for stronger tea, & also adjust the amount of ginger. You just don't want to use too much (about an inch of root per cup, crushed or grated), since too much ginger is not good either.
    MadeleineHope
Overall, ginger is pretty cool because it functions like an NSAID, except is more selective so you don't get certain side effects that you would from that. One of nature's pain meds!
So proud of my daughter. Only 14 and applying for scholarships at the University of Michigan to become a Psychologist!
Habituation, kind of understand it. Still a long way to go but there are periods of time where I feel like myself again despite the noise.
    M
Same here we were all here going through the same..kinda gives me hope knowing am not alone at this ..nice to meet you guys am mannny
I am incredibly nervous about going on vacation with T. It's my first time and I'm hoping I won't have spikes and suffer.
    Mo8409
@kingsfan It's off of a lake at that. I hope it's a good trip. I'm just nervous for the unknown ya know? This condition is still kind of new to me. So I don't know what to expect.
    ErikaS
Taking each day at a time, knowing there are better days ahead.
    RunningMan
Maybe being nervous about the vacation is what caused your sleep issues those recent nights. Hopefully that doesn't persist for you.
Left a loud job of nursing after 7 yrs & got a job as a Cardiovascular & Neuro Technologist in a quiet setting. I get Tinnitus. The irony!
    SarahMLFlemmer
    Crappy. =(
    MadeleineHope
@Mo8409 I see a lot more hope for you than for me but thank you :) And yes, regardless of what happens in the future, the present is still such a struggle & I think it's important to be able to express that & have it validated. Especially with the uncertainty!
    MadeleineHope
Oops, posted under the wrong comment for some reason but that was meant to be a reply to you :)
Sorry for the rant but this isn't living. There's no happiness here. How do people want to continue living this way? God help us.
    Tryn2BHopeful
@Mo8409 Somedays I would say its in both, one or just in my head... its all over the place. I think I have seen improvements, it doesnt seem as loud overall and I dont wakeup to it being horribly loud anymore. I still hear it over everything, but like yours it ramps up with external sounds.
    Tryn2BHopeful
It also stopped being such a broken up static like mess of sound its more of a solid static hiss, which oddly seems better, its easier to cope with.
    Tryn2BHopeful
Overall I think my situation might be better than some, but its still driving me crazy and is impacting my life negatively. I am 'trying to be hopeful' that I can get past that and start living again.
I was 1 of the worst people to get this condition because I'm easily stressed over noises. The light in my soul has burnt out, I'm a shell.
    RunningMan
Same here regarding noises. And another big problem for me since tinnitus shot up is insomnia, probably due to the perceived noise and anxiety both. So, that makes it even worse when you feel like you can't recharge to deal with it another day. How is your sleep?
    Mo8409
@RunningMan I've been able to fall asleep during this whole thing except the last 2 nights it seems to of been a struggle for me. The noise seems louder, perhaps a spike or my anxiety.
I feel robbed of the one thing I needed for myself, for my healing. It was taken away. I live in a constant state of stress, vulnerable.
Until tinnitus... I am afraid, I am weak, it has broken me down, it has destroyed my inner warrior and I am barely surviving.
    Mo8409
@tpj Oh wow. What caused yours? I'm so sorry. Do you have hearing loss? Do you feel you've habituated?
    tpj
I can't say for sure @Mo8409 but I think it was noise induced. I was mostly habituated to it but it's more severe now, so I am struggling atm. No hearing loss.
    Mo8409
@tpj Ugh I'm so sorry! This condition is such bullshit! I was thinking the other day that when people say "Rest in peace" I get it now. I actually look forward to that day now. Sad kinda. I can't believe you've had it so long but am happy to hear you've habituated. I have to find that point myself.
It was my life's mission to hold the hands of the scared, at my job & in my personal life. Nothing could scare me, tear me down, or break me
I've always been independent, strong, and relentless. I am the caretaker of the sick, the giver to the needy, the hope to the hopeless
This post may take up a few postings but I wanted to be real. I have been strong since age 4.
It seems tinnitus has spread to my left ear (the good ear) now I have 2 tones. A pure eeee in left and a hiss in right. I knew it was coming
    Mo8409
@Tryn2BHopeful Depending on what side the malfunction is taking place the most, it will appear on that side more. The pitches and frequency come from that little piano and your brain neurons misfiring.
    Tryn2BHopeful
Ugh... stupid brain! So what's broken on us.. the mechanism telling the brain what to do, or our neurons are just super excited!?
    Mo8409
@Tryn2BHopeful The medication probably messed with our serotonin and threw our brain off causing it to spazz out like it is. So the brains neurons are blinking like strobe lights making this sound we are hearing instead of blinking one by one which it does when you hear nothing.
Acceptance. A hard thing to do but it's the only way forward. Let go of what was & embrace what is. We have to or we'll always be stuck.
    Mo8409
@RunningMan Did you ever get your TTTS tested to see if it was anxiety related?
    Tryn2BHopeful
My heart wants to, but my brain refuses....
    RunningMan
@Mo8409 No test was done or confirmed. It wasn't even happening when I went to ENT, but it has started at times right after I felt my anxiety level rising, so I'm sure that's a factor. It's just odd that I went well over a year between my first experience of it and these recent multiple recurrences despite ongoing anxiety issues over all that time.
Is mild Tinnitus where you still hear it 24/7?
    Tryn2BHopeful
@Mo8409 If it wasnt for the reactivity I dont think I would consider it that bad. That however is not the case... like @MadeleineHope said Fans, white noise, driving, anything that presents a steady noise just ramps it right up. Unfortunately it seems every where I go I am at the mercy of a fan of some sort. I am hopeful that some day that will improve... until then... keep on pluggin away.
    Mo8409
@RunningMan It just depends on the day. I have heard it in the shower but 90% of the time I don't. It seems my T has a huge range. It bounces from severe to mild. Lol
    Tryn2BHopeful
Mr. T has no pity for me!
My Tinnitus can sometimes get louder when I open my mouth. Does this happen to everyone?
    Tryn2BHopeful
Well until I come home to the onslaught of fans, dishes, garbage disposal, and other things.... now wonder I have T :p
    Jammer
Not when I open my mouth, but when I clench my teeth; my uber high pitch kicks in and adds to the party.
    kingsfan
    Yes. Somatic.
Mine also gets louder if I push my forehead against my hand.
Meeting one of my favorite movie actors today. Shop smart, shop S smart! - Bruce Campbell
    RunningMan
@Mo8409 I like a variety and some scary movies, not too much gory stuff though. Unfortunately, I don't watch many movies, although there are plenty I would like to see.
    tpj
The Evil Dead. One of my favorites.
    Mo8409
@tpj He was nice but had a serious/business side to him. He took a picture with me reading the necronomicon book together. Haha
Today's lesson: being sad is hard and being happy is hard. Pick your hard.
    W
    That is brilliant.
    SamRosemary
It's true. That's why I still push myself to do stuff because my T will be loud if I sit at home and loud if I go to dinner with friends so why not just do all the stuff.
    Mo8409
My ring is lowering & I can hear other rings that were masked by my bad ear. My good ear seems to want attention now. Oof! What a circus.
    Mo8409
@Ngo13 of course! Your brain wouldn't want you to be at total peace just yet. Thank you for the encouragement. I'm ending the 4th month and going into the 5th. This entire condition is such horse shit. Doesn't even make sense lol
    Tryn2BHopeful
@Mo8409 I was thinking that about this condition as well. 2 pills... ones that were supposed to help me... and bam! I took a 3rd thinking it was temporary....It just kills me to think something that seemed innocent has got me in this predicament. Lesson learned though, never take a pill from the devil, even though I still am for sleep (a different evil pill)... I need to find a way to get off those to.
    Mo8409
ROLL CALL! What age did you get T? What caused it? How long have you had it?
    Juliane
At 25 after rock festival. It became mild and almost gone after many years. Firecracker trauma in 2023 made it worse than ever. Almost 7 months in after my re-traumatization.
    Mo8409
@Juliane Oh, I'm so sorry! I'm sure you'll go back to mild once again. I dream of being mild one day! Maybe even gone. Any hearing loss or damage with your traumas?
    Juliane
@Mo8409 I am deaf on my left ear and have hearing loss on my right.
