    Typewriter Tinnitus

I wouldn’t take anything. Most tinnitus resolves itself in the short term. I’d give it a month or so before trying to medicate. Perhaps try distractive sounds that mask the tinnitus to take your focus away.

Music at Low Volume — Safe?

I my opinion you are better off listening to smaller speakers than larger ones. Whatever has the lowest wattage. I wouldn't be afraid of headphones, I use them without concern, I just don't have th volume loud.

Are There Any "Good Signs?" I'm Tired of Reading About Doom and Gloom

I'm happy and my life is great. Still have tinnitus and it still bothers me every few days. I've tapered off my anti anxiety drugs and I get outside and drive again. We just got back from a month long tour of Asia and are planning kids! I wasn't the same two years ago. Healing just takes time!

Hyperacusis Spike After Loud Buzzer Goig Off Next to My Ear But Tinnitus Lowered

That would be a form of misophonia rather than hyperaccusis. But it's a good misophonia if it makes you leave the room or get the volume turned down.

    Engine Backfiring. Massive Worrying!

It is natural to have a reaction to loud sound after developing tinnitus. It's more a misophonia to loud sounds in general that causes it. Given enough time and habituation you will find loud sounds will have less of a reaction to your state of mind. You should still put your fingers in your...

To Those Who Believe in God, Why Doesn't God Want Me Dead? Also Why Do You Still Believe in God?

Only a real risk tests the quality of a belief. Life isn't fair and for some not easy. God doesn't promise that life for a believer would be easy, but He does say that He will walk with you through all the challenges.

Finally a Pattern for My Tinnitus

I don't know what causes the cycles. I don't think about them anymore, too much effort. I just do what I do and handle the bad days with some masking. It's gotten to the point where cicada sounds are enough to overwhelm the tinnitus so I do that when it's bad. I've built up a tolerance to...

    Should I Trust My Doctor?

Hello @Kitty K, For a majority of tinnitus sufferers the ringing goes away. There is nothing to suggest here that this won't be the same for you, especially given the underlying sickness discovered by the Doctor and your symptoms. I can appreciate the noise in your head is distressing, but...

What Does Habituation to Tinnitus Mean?

Habituation to me is going long periods without noticing my tinnitus. Today for example, I have only noticed it a few times and only because I was actively listening for it checking how bad it was. Habituation doesn't mean you will never hear your tinnitus again. Habituation means that when...

Tinnitus vs. Tinnitus + Hyperacusis: Some Basic Differences

Tinnitus is quite dramatic in its first months. Any number of things can happen from a change in pitch, a change in loudness or complete silence. Your hearing pathways are reacting to outside stimulus and sending messages to the brain generating the tinnitus sensation. Tinnitus that reacts to...

    Difficulty Riding in Car?

Driving made my tinnitus worse. It was so bad I moved to be closer to work so that my daily drive (round trip) was 5 minutes versus an hour. Can You Habituate to Reactive Tinnitus?

It was time more than anything else. As things improved I became aware that I could handle more. Initially there was lots of anxiety being in a cafe or from driving... You know fear of a spike, but as it stopped happening more and more I stopped worrying about it! It's not perfect yet though...

Yes to both. It took around 9-10 months to reach that point and I still have bad days 12 months later. Now I just do whatever.

Can You Habituate to Reactive Tinnitus?

I had really bad sound reactive tinnitus and mild hyperacusis this time last year when my tinnitus relapse occurred. I am doing markedly better than where I was six months/one year ago. However, I am still not quite there. I often experience throbbing ear aches throughout the day from noise exposure. Earplugs at Work

@alazysorcerer, I agree with @glynis! My ears were very sensitive at the start. I started wearing ear plugs to manage my exposure. It helped to an extent, but the real progress came as I gradually allowed myself to be exposed to louder sounds on an ever increasing basis. Now I don't wear ear...

It kinda sounds like H is the beast here. I have reactive tinnitus but it's mild now versus same time 9 months ago when it was something horrific. I have reactive tinnitus which I believe is related to a mild hyperaccusis in my right ear.
