2020 US Presidential Election

I was put in my place. Now I just won't vote. Only idiots vote. The only way to be smart is to distrust both parties equally.
Mocking me is something that I am not surprised by. Another liberal thinking it's funny is also not surprising. Keep it up.

How am I mocking you? I am literally being what you say I am. Isn't that more like exposing you mocking me?
No. It's making fun of my perspective.

When I was younger, I thought "Republicans vs Democrats' was a "thing." That there were differences. I was wrong.

You're not the first person to mock my perspective like that. It's cool though. I am not offended....however...

No. It's making fun of my perspective.
You can't be serious, can you?

From your perspective, you came on here, and kindly and respectfully offered a different opinion, didn't antagonize anyone, didn't mock anyone. Even if you aren't a conservative, this is what they do. Antagonize the living hell out of people and then when someone spins it back on them, they cry victim.

Wow. Self-awareness is dead. I guess if alternate realities are allowed, then I've never written a long-winded post on here. I'm extremely concise in most of my posts. I've never called out TRT. And you would be nuts to get the impression that I don't view Jastreboff as a best friend.

I told myself I wouldn't bite, but I did. Let's zoom out @PeteJ . You are a fellow sufferer, suicidal, going through a hard time, just like me. I hope you can find CBD oil and that it helps. If not, I hope you find another way to improve. We shouldn't be bickering; we should be allies.

I'm not going to respond to you in the politics thread. This time I mean it :)

You posted a meme of a sheep and mocked my viewpoint. Now, you are going on a tangent. I am with everyone when it comes to tinnitus. I can separate politics from this. I don't know why you are mentioning this though.
My only complaint is mainstream politics won't help us with it. I assume most disagree with me on that too. I shrug it off. I have no influence on it so I don't care at the end of the day. I care for about 10 minutes which might show up in the politics section. Then I don't.

When I was younger, I thought "Republicans vs Democrats' was a "thing." That there were differences. I was wrong.
I'm going to respond to this because it's substantive and completely non-inflammatory. I don't mean any disrespect in this response. If you don't respond similarly, I will ignore it.

How much of that perceived similarity between the two parties do you think is simply a lack of progress due to partisan gridlock, versus the parties having the same ideals?

Where I would sort of agree with you is that Democratic leaders care about their financial interests a lot more than they want to admit. Still not at the level of Republicans, but it's fair to say Obama is extremely friendly to financial elites.

Outside of finances, I don't think there's a whole lot of common ground. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you are more disgruntled with gridlock and a lack of teamwork than the parties actually agreeing on everything? Sort of like "nothing ever changes," no matter who's in power.

No, I posted previously what I think. It's not just partisan gridlock. But, I don't want to argue. I can probably explain and elaborate to no avail.
I thought about what you said about tinnitus and I thought that we may never find common ground politically but I think it's awful we both have this condition.

Ey everyone, aside from the GOP vs. Dems debate, I'm wondering what people here think should be the ideal VP pick for Joe Biden, and why she (obviously not a 'he' given Biden's remarks) should be the ideal candidate. I have my doubts between Elisabeth Warren (idealism and experience) and Megan Rapinoe (flair and strong role model for LGBT community), but it's probably wishful thinking:angelic:

I thought Stacey Abrams would've been the best choice. A woc widely believed to have been cheated out of becoming the first female governor who happens to be from an emerging swing state that also happens to have 2 senate seats up. I don't think she's happening tho.

I want Warren, but I think it's going to be Kamala, which doesn't bother me, as I think she would make a decent president.

@Christiaan -- I had been hoping Biden would choose Warren, despite the fact that her open Senate seat would almost assuredly be filled by a Republican for as long as 6 months before a special election could be held. The choice of interim senator is the choice of Massachussetts' current Republican governor.

Given what's happened with the Black Lives Matter movement however (and so much more), I'm now inclinced to lean toward him picking a woman of color (seize the moment to help upend 400+ years of human debasement). I'm not at all a fan of Kamala Harris, as she not seems to lack the depth I would like to see. She also apparently ran a pretty miserable Presidential campaign (you can learn a lot about people the way they run their campaigns).

I do like Val Demmings, Congresswoman from Florida, and Keisha Lance Bottoms, current Mayor of Atlanta. But the woman I prefer at this time is Susan Rice. I've always found her to be grounded and level-headed. She was Obama's National Security Advisor, and seems to have a demeanor somewhat similar to his (no-drama Obama). I also like that she's married to William Cohen, former Republican congressman and Secretary of Defense. I think they could become a Washington "power couple", and would almost assuredly make repairing relationships with our allies a top priority.

People can say whatever they want about the alt right. I certainly am not on their side but I have to give the devil his due. If it wasn't for the alt right having "alternative" platforms to YouTube and Facebook would be difficult for people who call out ecommerce scams to have a voice.

Websites like gab, dissenter, bitchute, lbry.tv DON'T CENSOR OR REMOVE people who call out ecommerce scams. Google literally put ContraHealthScam's YouTube channel on a timeout after the Sonus Complete scam video got reported. Meanwhile his content on bitchute and lbry.tv is doing just fine. I'm no fan of the alt right. I just want to congratulate them for making the internet more free and less corporate. I wish more people were interested in using alternatives to Google and Facebook's empire and the alt right is the only one focusing on that.

Is anyone else pissed off that Google and Facebook control most of the internet?

Yeah I totally agree, I think that we need to break the internet up. Like many other things, the internet is controlled by monopolies and monied interests.

I am. I am very against censorship and yes big corporations have too much control. Censoring questionable ideas never squashes them, it just drives it more and more to a fringe extreme.

If the alt right opposes this, then that's one thing I agree with them on. But it's weird that the "mainstream right" opposed net neutrality and Trump wants a year jail time for flag burning.

I am.

It's either a monopoly or oligopoly since being on those other ones automatically means you will be labelled an extremist, racist or white supremacist by other people.

Google owns YouTube but you probably already knew that. Google, YouTube and Facebook all have virtually the same kind of oppressive and restrictive policies. That's why your "evil alt-right" are forced to go elsewhere for freedom and expression.

You don't need government to do it.

Just use alternative platforms and don't make chrome your browser.

I have mixed feelings. In one regard, I fully support free speech. I also am not a fan of oligopolies. But, rabbit holes scare me so much. It's so easy to go down one and get brainwashed. At least the Facebook and Google brainwash is in plain sight. Even Fox News scares me less than, say, Breitbart. This doesn't mean I want them shut down, but I'm not sure if it's clear their existence is a wonderful thing.

There's certainly a good counterargument to my opinion. One could argue that by being in plain sight, there's a normalization factor. Like, it's just Facebook, no big deal... we are just going to skew all of your information towards a political party and make it feel innocent. I still think this is less bad than an alt right rabbit hole.

You are a smart person @Contrast. Not everyone is.

The left wing nutjobs on here keep missing the point. ALL OF THEM are evading who is responsible for this and who this bias benefits and who is promoted (and who is vilified and censored).

The Left have corporations and corporate interests in their back pockets. That's why you see the alt right being the only one to call them out. Banks' primary motive is profit and supporting the Left is what they have chosen - they perceive the Left as their political affiliations to achieve more profit. Even if the Left hates them. It doesn't matter. In all this, white people are the most targeted for persecution and opposition. If you are white, you either capitulate and conform or you are part of "the enemy." This is today's world.

The mainstream parties have negligible differences which I have argued previously. Of course, they support censorship and infringements on rights.

Yeah I totally agree, I think that we need to break the internet up. Like many other things, the internet is controlled by monopolies and monied interests.
Keep the politicians and governments away I.e. hands off. The problem is the corporate internet companies are monopolies and oligopolies. They're also popular. Despite that, there are alternatives. They are just not well known. Facebook et al. should not receive any government assistance or attention.

No one cared when Facebook's Zuckerberg met with Germany's Chancellor Merkel on how best to censor certain speech and expression.

Yeah... I would agree. The establishment wing soft both parties have a pretty decent amount in common at the very least.

I agree with this also, corporate welfare needs to go.

Some moron writing a blog writing everything off as "conspiracy theory. " So clever. Nutjobs...

Here's some "anti-Republican" discussion although I perceive it as just another example that these parties are the same.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/24/gop...t-would-create-a-backdoor-for-encryption.html

Republicans lead the way on oppressive policies that deal with security, privacy and freedoms - often to do with technology. Trump better answer the inevitable outrage and opposition to come. Liberals might not care as much but there is a branch of people out there that value their privacy and rights.

If Trump ignores it, he risks alienating a considerable section of his base. This is yet another reason or illustration that the so-called "right wing" are frauds - at least with neocons, which these Republicans probably are - Americans should have better insight on them. Dunno about here though.
