  • everything from the neck up is hardly curable.
    danielthor
There was a time not too long ago where nothing was hardly curable. Science moves fast these days. Doors are being opened as we speak. Google "top 10 medical breakthroughs last decade"
    Foamearplugssuck
funny because all of my issues are, quite literally, in my head
When you are feeling bad about T what do you do? I used to think this was going to come out, and it got better, now I can't think like that.
    danielthor
I just take it hour by hour. Before you know it the day is done and we're one step closer to the cure
    Stacken77
@PortugalTheMan I try to occupy my mind with other things and do that which makes me happy. Definitely second that which @danielthor said.
I can't stand waking up to this noise every day. Please a cure, for all of us!
Doctor asked me to have a neurology appointment.
    Steph1710
Is this a good thing? Did you ask for an appointment?
    PortugalTheMan
@Steph1710 yesterday the doctor said that if the ENTs say that my auditory system is ok, for me to go to a neurologist because there are many things that interfere with the auditory system. I haven't made an appointment yet, I'm looking for a good neurologist.

so it's neither good nor bad, it's fighting for a better life.
    Steph1710
@PortugalTheMan well I wish you the best of luck my friend! Fighting for a better life is all we can do. X
Hospital wsites have articles talking about T, and all the articles say that T comes with antidepressants, yet do ENTs still prescribe it?
    Sayeed
I think its a numbers game. Anything and everything is potentially ototoxic, just depends on to what degree. I take buspar which is not as effective as benzos but less ototoxic. Anxiety and depression increases T..so once that is under control you will be able to deal with it better my friend.
If I won the EuroMillions, I would have 1M for me and the remaining 48M would be for a cure.
Everything is so confusing, all increases T, medicines, eating, sports, everything increases, nothing can be done in this life.
    Nadia231
I feel you... Going outside for work increases my T, staying at home at the weekend increases me T... Seriously...
@Damocles Who is older, the sun or the moon?
    Damocles
So, the popular theory is that the Sun is 4.5 billions years old, while the Moon is 4.53 billion years old; making the Moon older than the Sun.

But according to research released last year, the Moon is actually 85 million years younger than we previously thought (making it 4.425 billion years old; thus for now, the belief is that the Sun is older than the Moon.
It's my birthday, and i can't be excited. T what have you done to me!
    aura
But the problem was that the constant pain almost drove me insane. I've been prescribed antidepressants and sleeping pills. And the antipsychotic drugs were just around the corner, that's what the psychiatrist told me. I wasn't depressed,i was just insane because of the constant pain.
    aura
After the hardest battle of my life, i managed somehow to sleep again and to get back on track. And just when i thought that the nightmare was over, boom.Tinnitus again. This time louder, and with new tones.
    So 6 months later...here i am.
    PortugalTheMan
@aura Did you ever take anti-psychotics?
You know, those who don't feel our suffering say it's depression, because for others, a person who suffers has to be happy with life.

Today I ran out of some new tones that I had won and I didn't do anything, but they were with me for 2 months. Even so, I'm still not as I was before.

Yours can still go out again.
I even cry with joy to see that Dr. Shore's device says "treats root cause of tinnitus".
    Damocles
F*cked if I know @PortugalTheMan. The only way I survive this sh*t is by not researching anything to do with it. I no longer concern myself with treatments or cures.

I was just so happy you were happy.
    Lurius
I'm not saying it is a lie, it's just that DIrk De Ridder said that these kind of devices first and foremost treat the distress and not the sound. But I'm not 100% sure what the Shore device actually does, it would be nice if it was *THE* cure.
    PortugalTheMan
@Damocles What made me happiest was knowing that I was going to be without T and live like a normal person, being able to have fun without being afraid of making this condition worse.
There is a popular saying which is: "There is a cure for everything but death", I think they have forgotten about the T.
    Damocles
    What do you mean?

There's already a cure for tinnitus.

    It's called TRT. ༼ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° ༽
    T spike after cr7 goal at 90+5. I sent a big scream
    Damocles
lol, CR7 needs to start coming with a health warning.
    PortugalTheMan
@Damocles There are peaks that are worth it. And yesterday's game, with Ireland wasting time the whole game, it was beautiful to score a goal at 90+5
    Christiaan
The guy is already a legend, but he's now a living God. C7 has just broken Ali Daei's eye-popping world record of 109 international goals:0
No matter how much we talk here, there won't be anything to cure. We are in the hands of science and doctors, and the cure is not yet close.
    PortugalTheMan
@Christiaan After this interview I'm hopeless about any medication and I lost hope in oto-313, the T is much more complex than I thought. since he says that correcting hearing loss may not mean anything for tinnitus.
    Christiaan
@PortugalTheMan I think he was talking about probabilities. So something like FX-322 is not a one-size-fits-all medicine that helps people with tinnitus, regardless of the cause (e.g more effective for people with NIHL than for someone who has somatic tinnitus).
    kingsfan
@Christiaan It's all based anecdotally. I've just seen people post here and reddit and a few other places about psilocybin helping them but nothing positive about ketamine.
This week I'm on vacation and I haven't been around here. To make a normal life i hope i don't regret it. Exposed to everyday sounds.
because of T I can't go a day without crying, has anyone managed to get through this without medication?
    Christiaan
Well, in my case, it took quit some time until I was out of the mental anguish phase. I think it started to change when I combined a holistic approach by using supplements like probiotics (which seems to work well for mood according to science), healthy diet, exercise (daily on the rowing machine for example) and just do stuff to keep your mind of your T
    Christiaan
like several meet ups with friends during the week, a walk in the park, and watching shows (especially comedy!). Those things really helped in my situation. You can always try some of those things and see if it works for you
    Stacken77
Thank you so much @Christiaan for your kind words, it means a lot.
horrible I can't enjoy the holidays, screaming children, people with portable music speakers, I have to wear ear plugs all the time.
    Christiaan
Anyway, don't forget the match between Benfica-PSV! Our team is on fire! Do you think your team stands a chance against ours?
    PortugalTheMan
@Christiaan I would like to lie down with the towel and be relaxed listening to the sea, but the noise of people makes me uncomfortable and I think I'll take the worst T.
    Christiaan
Wow, it's like we're talking about the same beach XD Do you also have a car route next to the beach boulevard? It really gets noisy with those cars. I only go to the beach between 10 am and 2 pm. After that, it's just pure chaos of noise.
My Peltor X5A has just arrived, and I notice you hear less of the T than if you wear foam ear protectors.
    J
¿se siente el tinnitus mas insoportable con los tapones de espuma que con las orejeras ?
    PortugalTheMan
    @JPGL
Sí, mucho más insoportable con tapones para los oídos de espuma y silicona que con protectores auditivos.
Full of new tones after traveling for the weekend. I'm finished. the volume is low, but not that many tones!
    Stacken77
@PortugalTheMan At one point I acquired a bunch of new tones within a short time due to noise exposure. A lot of the tones did go away after weeks to months. In my opinion; tones and frequencies can be distressing, but what really matters is volume as increasing volume really can push our limits. Tones may come and go, frequencies may change.
    Christiaan
@Stacken77 Is absolutely right. Many people here have tones come & go. I too had a new tone two nights ago, but now it's luckily gone.
    Steph1710
Yup! @Stacken77 and @Christiaan are both right. I had a really annoying chirping tone come when I was sick last week. However, it's gone already. I've had loads of tones come and go. I would agree that volume is more worrying than new tones. Anyway, I understand it isn't easy @PortugalTheMan. None of this is. :(
Worst summer ever, I can't enjoy anything thanks to this shitty noise.
    Lurius
This summer has been especically challenging for me as well, the last 2 was better even though I had tinnitus in those too.
    J
yo igual ya no disfrutas de nada con un sonido intrusivo-severo en los oidos, tenia una moto deportiva me deshize de ella, con tinnitus la calidad de vida se fue por la borda,ya no disfrutas de nada
Today I woke up, and felt different sounds in my ears.I panicked and cried, it seems that instead of getting better things are getting worse
    PortugalTheMan
    @Steph1710
I think it depends on the person's personality. I'm a person who doesn't give up on anything, even if I want to give up I can't.

I'd like to think this is forever, and that's okay. But that doesn't happen.
    Steph1710
@PortugalTheMan you're just like me. I never give up, even if I want to. I've had an unbelievably tough life, and getting T was the icing on the cake, but I still haven't given up lol. High five to us!
    PortugalTheMan
@Steph1710 If you need help with something, there's a good shoulder here :)
Do you like to surf? I wanted to learn to surf too, or learn bodyboarding.

Think on the bright side, at least you don't have a boring life like many people do. :)

I know you will win all the bad times, because from what you tell me you have been strong so far, so you won't stop being strong!
My T varies in tones, is this normal? either I have a 14khz or it disappears and I have a static. does anyone else have something like that?
    PortugalTheMan
@Christiaan should we eat foods rich in glutamate or stop eating?

It might be a test for me to do :)
    Christiaan
@PortugalTheMan Quite the contrary, ;p And it's nearly impossible to avoid glutamate, because it's almost in all kinds of food. But you can reduce your intake of it. Sometimes, it's best to start small & focus on foods with high glutamate properties. In my case, I started off by avoiding chips & popcorn. That did some wonders in avoiding temporary spikes
    Christiaan
SPI-1005 is about to complete phase 3, but I don't see many people happy or arguing about this drug. Won't it be good for us with T?
My problem is going to sleep every day hoping that the next day it will get better. But no, I'm still in this hell.
    Massi91
It has to do with the nervous system, you are scared of the night because you know you will hear the T louder thus making you get anxiety thus making your T higher. So you need to look forward. There is always hope, have you ever tried to go on healing service (prayer) ?
    PortugalTheMan
    @Massi91
I would like to find hope that this suffering will not be for life.
    Massi91
@PortugalTheMan So if you don´t stress yourself it might go away on it´s own if it´s recent (within 2 Years). If it doesn´t go away your brain will adapt and it will get better or you will habituate if you don´t think of it as something bad.
The brain collects bad experiences and it more wary of them than good experiences.
(2/2) I feel that when I go for a walk that I don't take advantage of the moment because I'm afraid of making the T worse.
    Massi91
Don´t live in fear, if you respect God he will take care of you.
