  • Both the kiddo and I are sick. Hoping that it is seasonal allergies or a cold and not the Delta variant. Ugh.

@Tweedleman I feel the same way. No energy at all. Did you get a Covid test?
    Tweedleman
@Steph1710 Much appreciated my homie <3 Yeah, you know it must been bad if I voluntarily stopped smoking for 2 days eh! lol. Sounds like the same bug indeed! I'd have loved to call in sick with you and just get loopy on cough medicine together! Lol I wish we had like, advanced highspeed underwater rail between our countries. Like why hasnt it been done already!
    twa
    Back to feeling like poo.
@Charburchar that's great about your Master's! I say we have to keep moving forward with our lives in the midst of adversity.
    Charburchar
Thanks twa! Absolutely. Hope you're well.
    twa
@Charbuchar we are sick over here, but otherwise doing well.
    Steph1710
@Charburchar I second what @twa said - congratulations man! So, so proud of you. Don't let this horrid condition win! *virtual high five* :)
Ideas for natural anti-depressants that are safe to take with T/H.

para dormir recurro a mirtazapine, aunque ya se que NO es natural

@Farida, I haven't heard of sweet basil tea. I'll check it out, thank you~
@Damocles that's funny! Caffeine makes me super jittery and uncomfortable. :-(
@PortugalTheMan I love a decaf latte once in a while. Love the smell of coffee!
@PortugalThe Man I agree! I love to walk and swim!
@Leila I've been curious about St. John's Wort. I'll check it out. Thank you~
@JPGL Gracias a Dios yo puedo dormir bien.

Thank you for all the suggestions! You guys are awesome! Muchas gracias para las sugerencias. !Ustedes son increíbles!
Visited the new campus to sign paperwork, had lunch with my college roommate and went to a graduation party. Nice to do normal things!
My husband listens to loud podcasts every night and sleeps with earbuds in. He says he's just lucky, he doesn't have tinnitus. Smh...
    twa
@Steph1710 it was a hard week, thank you for checking on me. I'm doing better. Had a better day today. That's amazing that he hasn't been sick in 6 years! When I taught school, I was sick quite a bit. Now that I've been away from the school environment for 4 years, I only get sick seasonally. Do you think you have allergies that trigger other illness?
    twa
@Michael Leigh yeah, you may be right. I've talked to him several times about tinnitus and ear phones or earbuds. What worries me is that he allows my son to wear earphones. He thinks if it's low, it's ok. He also talks to people all day long on the phone for his job, so some days he wears earbuds all day and night.
    Michael Leigh
@twa listening to earphones, earbuds etc at low volume will not usually cause harm. However, I advise to give the ears a rest and not listen for hours and hours. This is for people that do not have tinnitus. Anyone with tinnitus, especially noise induced, my advice is to never use any type of headphones even at low volume.
Such a hard day. Loud ringing all day, not sure why.
    aot
Sometimes it gets aggravated. Try not to worry.
    twa
@aot thank you. A family member is very argumentative and it doesn't help things.
Cicadas were very loud on my walk tonight with the dog.
    tracyNYC
Ugh...it's maddening isn't it? I hope the dog didn't bark!
    twa
@tracyNYC no I guess he's used to it. I think the heat bothers him more.
Hi! I was wondering did your tinnitus ever improve after the vaccine?
    twa
@summitplum it's hard to tell. I do think my hyperacusis has improved some. The vertigo and dizziness which started after the vax has improved, but still here.
It's been 10 months since my acoustic trauma, my family has done very little to accomodate my injury. It is sad and isolating.
    twa
@Steph1710 that would be a great trip to meet everyone on TT in person!

@Forever hopeful thank you~ I'm doing ok, sometimes I have low moments when I get discouraged. I think how could a kind and merciful God, allow this to happen to His children? My husband is not an empathetic person and sadly, he does not teach my son to be. My friends are polite and listen for a few seconds.
    Forever hopeful
I'm really sorry. That really stinks. And I ask the same question about God.
    Robster
It certainly makes you question a lot of things.
Kind of a different sound, more like a light saber from Star Wars. Hmm...
    twa
@Wrfortiscue not sure. It was different. Just keep moving along and try to ignore, going to work on my class.
    Forever hopeful
When I first got 10 a test in 2015 after my acoustic drama, that's what it sounded like. You're the only other person I've heard describe it as a light saber and that is what I used to describe mine. It went away after about two years. I used sound machines a lot and I had a sound pillow for sleeping. I am still hopeful that yours will resolve.

The most difficult parts of my campus experience: fire alarm going off in the dorms & classmates in the cohort laughing loudly ALL DAY LONG.
    Tau
Even before I had T and H, I'd always hated loud people in the hallways at uni. Stay strong!
    twa
@Tau this is my 4th university experience! I remember when I went away to school at 17, it was difficult to sleep or study in the dorms because of the noise. Thank you! I tried my hardest to persevere through the tough days!
Back home after my class at the university. It was hard, but we are stronger than we think!
Is there ever a point when we can go in public without earplugs again?
    Vassili
In my case probably yes. I plan not to use them after 2 years mark.
    Stacken77
@twa I wonder the same. I've talked with a lot of people that have had tinnitus for decades without it changing, never used earplugs. But with hyperacusis, our ears are probably too fragile. It's these one off unexpected noises that we must protect from, so I guess earplugs will be our friend indefinitely.
    danielthor
I honestly don't even mind at this point. I'm traumatized by sounds
Long days, tomorrow is the last day of class at the university!
    twa
@Christiaan thank you! It was great being on my own for a week on campus. Such a different experience than when I first lived on campus when I was 17! :-D It has helped me to focus on other things in life, like earning a doctorate and meeting new people!
    Christiaan
Please keep me/us in the loop @twa It would be awesome if you get your PhD despite H & T. I already think you're one hell of a tough cookie for participating in this arduous program.
    twa
@Christiaan thank you for your support. No one outside of this group realizes how difficult is was. I think I'm a pretty tough cookie too!
Day 4 of doctoral cohort. Staying at the university & attending classes all day has been difficult. My goal is to take one day at a time.
    aot
Be careful with the hallways and bells! Can be pretty loud.
    twa
A fire alarm went off yesterday in the dorm. I sent an email to the director of the program. I will stay away during hours of construction that might set off an alarm.
Family dinner tonight was so excrutiatingly loud. My ears are ringing off the charts.
Garbage trucks go all day on Fridays. I was holding my ears and my son said, "Mom if they are too loud, you tell me and I'll beat them up!"
    kingsfan
Ugh yep! Tuesdays for me, and they back all the way down my street, then pull forward and back down the other side.
Went to the salon & the stylist used the hair dryer on low. The sound was tolerable. The stylist said the new Dyson is quieter than most.
Watched A Quiet Place II, scary & I kept my earplugs in for unexpected loud noises. It's a pretty good movie, I bet there will be a 3rd!
    PortugalTheMan
    Also watched.
Yes, in the end everything indicates that there will be a third movie.
    Robster
Coincidence I watched that yesterday as well. First movie since getting mild h where I actually had to turn the volume up!
    twa
I know, the sound is very low in the movie. I kept waiting for the loud alien noise out of nowhere!
Excited and a bit nervous about going to my doctoral cohort on campus in Austin. Four hour drive and I'll stay in the dorms!
So I went to the dr this week and she said I have fluid in my ears. Every time I go, they say this. Anyone else have fluid in your ears?
    Vassili
Fluid is a functional part of the inner ear if I remember correctly. If so, everyone have it. :p
    martinberryhorse
I was told I had fluid in one ear after I coughed mucus into my eustachian tubes. When my ears felt less stuffy a few months after, the volume was down about 50%, this happened overnight. The e-tubes are the only way as far as I know for the inner ear to drain, so you might have some kind of malfunctioning tubes.
Ideas on going to the dentist with tinnitus and hyperacusis?
    Julien87
Yes, do not wear protection. The noise coming from the inside of the mouth, it can just make things worse. And avoid the ultrasonic scaler. That tool makes a very high frequency loud noise… The problem is that most dentists use that tool fo scaling nowadays. Some dentists still perform manual scaling though. I would advise to try to find one in your area.
    twa
I talked to a dentist in my neighborhood she said any dental hygienist could do a manual cleaning. It's the procedures that are tricky. She said to find one that uses laser equipment. I found one yesterday so I'm going to give them a call. Thank you for the info guys, it's helpful. I needed help to move forward.
    R
Laser wasn't an option for me, but drilling 3-5s on and 10-15s off helped a ton. No spikes. I also always did manual and not sonic cleaning. This helped with T a lot, though I never went to dentist while my HA was bad.

Also took NAC but idk if that helped, and wore those big earmuff protectors. But most sound was from bone conduction. GL!
