2020 US Presidential Election

As the election gets closer to the end this thread is going to get really heated!

You literally couldn't write this shit. Libertarian politics are a shitshow by nature, but seeing it in action is really something else.

Anywho, anybody still sporting electability arguments:

The Libertarian primary is even funnier this year. Vermin Supreme is currently leading.

I think Biden actually performed well despite his insistence that he wrote 90% of our civil rights and gun legislation.
Can you imagine a debate between Trump and the guy (Pete) whose whole campaign is "I am the safest, most establishment candidate there is!"

I honestly can't believe they're still spouting the electability hits while vehemently denying the relevance of the only data (state and national polls) there is to validate their argument.

I don't think Bernie did very well apart from his last statement. Glad he spoke out about Netanyahu and defended his affinity for socialist programs despite their being employed by authoritarian regimes. It seems like so many people have difficulty discerning policy from the policy-makers and make sweeping, inseparable associations between the two because they're too conservative to step out of their one-track mind.

I read that Cuba has an lung cancer vaccine and eliminated HIV-transmission from mother to child but yeah I guess we should only be concerned about their ruling politics

Oddly enough Sanders did the best in the opinion of who won the debate according to CNN and CBS.

I am glad Bernie trusts people enough for nuance but, of course, people are going to try to use it against him. Someone is going to say: "that's like saying the Nazis made the trains run on time" without recognizing that people who usually say that are really saying "the ends justify the means" (ironically, Bloomberg and his pride in post Stop and Frisk NYC crime stats is actually doing that).

Bernie clearly thinks the world would be better without any authoritarian government and said as much emphasizing that he is including Cuba here but said that universally literacy would be an amazing accomplishment for any country. His point seemed to be that a full education revamp is possible in a short period of time, Cuba did it, not "only Communist dictatorships can do it" or that it excuses any of the human rights violations.

An analogy: if North Korea cured tinnitus, I would give them credit for that but then bash everything else about their horrid regime. It's not that hard to understand but I can also see angry North Korean ex pats (like the Floridian Cubans) being angry about this, too. For that reason, I wish Bernie were more specific about what he doesn't like about Cuba.

I agree, which seems to the diametrically opposite of how Trump generally thinks about authoritarian despots. His embarrassing obsequious behavior toward so many of them seems to border on kissing their a**.

Honestly, all you have to do is flatter him and he does what you want. Blagojevich (a democrat) got pardoned from prison recently simply because his wife said nice things about Trump on Fox. I'm surprised more world leaders haven't picked up on this to their advantage.

I'm really wondering if my neighbors are going to erect their Keep America Great signs after the stock market started sliding.

Full disclosure, these people don't own stocks but they probably nonetheless care because Boots care about it.
It's become like pro sports, you wear the jersey and talk smack no matter how your team is doing.

That's why the two party system is literally ruining the US.

This is why the Dirtbag Left is so compelling. Hard left non-identitarians seem to be the only source of any coherence for the working/middle classes. At least maybe I understand conservatism among the very wealthy—of course they're going to want to protect their interests. But so many faux riche 80-150k earners are under this spell where they think touting the interests of the mega-rich going to earn them brownie points with their fucking golfing buddies. Centrists are the worst of them all IMO. No convictions, no solutions, just crybaby shit about partisanism that is completely unrealistic. Either that or they parade as libertarians which is equally aversive. To be clear though, I do hate both parties with a similar passion.

Pete dropped out today

Bloomberg should be next to dropout. From what I can gather, he doesn't have even a ghost of a chance to win over the African-American community, which is necessary to win the nomination. Below are links to two articles I read today that makes me think he'll likely drop out after Tuesday, once he realizes he's not really a viable candidate. After reading the second linked article, I can see why he and his policies are so reviled by people of color.

I. Selma churchgoers turn their backs to Bloomberg

II. The New York police under Michael Bloomberg scarred me and my family
As a working-class black male educator, I experienced the horrors and the trauma of how his police department treated people like me.

The hallmarks of Bloomberg's tenure were economic displacement and the school-to-prison pipeline, with the key pillar being his stop-and-frisk policies, where police disproportionately stopped black and Latino men to check for weapons. As a working-class black male educator during the entirety of Bloomberg's tenure, I got to experience the horrors and the trauma of how his police department treated people like me. Here are just two examples of many.

In 2004, I was driving home from my teaching job at an elementary school in the South Bronx, on my way to pick up my 3-year-old son and wind down for the evening. I saw sirens flashing in my rearview mirror. This was not the first time I'd been pulled over by the cops, nor would it be my last. It is something one never gets used to, and every time it happens your heart skips a beat. You feel guilty even though you didn't do anything wrong.

I remember the officers approaching the vehicle and telling me I hadn't properly used a turn signal, and I remember them taking my license and insurance. I waited for what seemed like forever with increasing anxiety in every moment. When the cops returned, they asked me to step out of the car, turn around and put my hands behind my back. I don't remember asking why or if they just told me that my insurance was suspended. I knew this wasn't true, but I didn't dare open my mouth. I was well aware of what might happen if you talk back to the cops from Rodney King's beating by the L.A. police. So I kept my mouth shut.

I was taken to the local police precinct and put in a cage not much bigger than a bathroom, with two other people, one bench and one toilet. While one person gets to occupy the bench, the other two are forced onto the filthy floor. When you are locked in a cage, you are suddenly no longer human. You're an animal. Your spirit shifts into survival mode.

I spent what must have been a few hours in one cell before being transferred via paddy wagon to another cell. I was handcuffed and placed in the back of a dark van behind a cage. It's a terrifying experience. You lose your bearing because you don't quite know where you are or where you're going.

After spending another few hours in the second cell, I was released without seeing a judge. No explanation. No apology. No car either, as it was impounded. I had to borrow money just to get it back the next day. I was grateful to be free and get home to my son and my mother, who was watching him. We didn't speak much about the incident because I was just happy to be home.

The powerful right pretends to care about religion and family values, and the powerful left pretends to care about minorities. Really neither care about anything but their own interests.

Plus 1 for the "dirt bag left."

Absolutely correct Bloomberg is megacancer.
