Retigabine (Trobalt, Potiga) — General Discussion

Damn, I decided to go through with it.
Start at 100mgx3 for 3 days, then 150mgx3 for 3 more days then 300mg for at least a month.
Side effects were absolutely minimal when I was at 100mg, if any.
Hopefully, something good will come out of this. I'll update the user experience form, i'll report any findings here as well.
Here goes nothing.
Don't know if we've been through this with you particularly, but I still say that's too fast. Five days per jump is a reasonable compromise, but three days? I wouldn't risk that.

Nobody in Dominican Republic pharmacies speaks any English-i called like 5 pharmacies and they all hanged up when I spoke English.
If anybody here speaks Spanish and is willing to inquire for me about Trobalt availability and if can be bought without prescription,
these are the numbers:

i think the fast taper is actually the way to go. worked for Mpt. i've discussed the reasons i think so some posts back.

I wish those bloody people from Pittsburgh university would get off their asses and come up with that modified version of trobalt so more of us can try it but with less side effects.
All this tinnitus shit is hard as is but witnessing how little medical people care is even worse:(
I wonder how many years we have to wait for new version?

Yep, this is just me disagreeing with you. :p Five days *is* a fast taper. But we haven't seen bad results from the fast taper yet, so I'm not going to call the FDA or anything. I'll go back and review your reasons sometime, maybe change my mind.

The important thing is that @undecided knows the arguments and can make his own decision.

@Christian78 I have to admit, all these delays at Autifony are making even me lose some of my optimism that anybody will get a drug to market in the next 18 months. The UK health system seems to be in a bad state and the US market is no better. Both are full of red tape and the doctors are scared to put something out that will get them sued later.

Edited to add, it's not even US and UK doctors who are doing all the work, but all seem to go to US or UK to get the big pharma money.

Hm. Well I suppose you were using the royal 'we' here?

I don't mind you disagreeing with me, but you sounded as though we were all in agreement as to how fast someone should taper.

@rtwombly
Party at my place if there's anything even within 5-10 years considering current situation.
This whole Autifony thing is becoming really really disappointing!
Obviously there is no urgency since it's not life threatening
Yeah no need to rush!

the truth is that the day that tinnitus is curable, a part of the economy will collapse. many specialists remain unemployed. in Italy a lot of people without a title in medicine "live thank to tinnitus." They take a banal title audiovestibologia and they build on their career selling hearing aids, white noise generators, and other unnecessary accessories such as the sound pillow etc etc. when the customer realizes that it did not solve any problem is downloaded to a psychiatrist and ... go with antidepressants! antechamber of death! As with many other diseases, tinnitus is a goose that lays golden eggs which will be alive for a decade. We are in an era where some scientists still have the nerve to say that tinnitus is not a disease! But just to suck money from some old fi eager to make love again ... have been pulled out of the blue pill. we maintain a multi-billion dollar market and in front of the god of money ... there is no reason! Look at this ... how much money we spent "just us" with Trobalt? people willing to make long trips and even face customs controls. Let's keep our eyes wide open ...

wow i think "collapse" is a little too much tragic, i dont know wich % of Ent visits are due to tinnitus but i dont think when a cure appears they will get unemployed, even in that supposed case i absolutely dont care in benefit of US = sufferers.
It's true that nowadays tinnitus makes a good economy, but luckily this economy is not concentrated in one only company or some big association so I dont think there is a risk that a real cure could be threatened for economy reasons. The company that finds the expected cure (posibly Autifony) is gonna earn lots and lots of money because we are millions and we all gonna buy that drug, more than that money is gonna disappear from doctors and audiologists hands, poor them, I hope they knew how to save money when
they could.
I visit a spanish FB group about tinnitus and there is a woman that works as audiologist selling hearing aids. Everytime someone asks for help she explains that T is due is very most of cases to a hearing loss and its gonna be fixed with a hearing aid (that she is gonna sell of course) I hate her so much
So in that supposed case that real cure comes one day, lot of money gonna quit from doctors, hearing aids, psychologist etc and go to a unique pharmaceutical company, well that happens everyday more and more with globalization. Pharma is one of the biggest economy in the world and thats not gonna change
My point is that we dont have to worry about that something will stop Autifony to continue. They will have their reasons for delay, there is a lot of bureaucracy involved, also they must agree 10-12 hospitals in the UK.
I agree the lack of information about the delays is very disapointing. Good that they succeed phase I, this gives a little of hope. Now we can do nothing else than wait and hope. I also dont think this company is having economy problems to continue, in that case they could sell some shares and I will be buying them:)
Sorry for answering an off topic post in this thread

I don't think the hearing aid market will collapse if tinnitus is cured.
People will still lose hearing and need hearing aids. The market that will collapse is TRT, Soundcure, Neuromonics and Dr.Coleman's Tinnitus Miracle, Lipoflavonoid, Ringstop, Quietus and Dr.Shemesh.
Hearing aid companies will cry when stem cells cure hearing loss.

Dear Viking

I believe not all people will be cured. @dan 's maybe will go down to 20% and he will need pillow or noise generator. Some people will not want to buy expensive drug but but will want hearing aid with white noise, cheaper on long term.

You understand me?

I just took pill and it made me like drunk.

I agree...the tinnitus business is WAY more lucrative the way it is now without a cure. We jump around trying all the different treatments, talk therapy, pills, supplements etc etc etc. We spend money in all directions, something doesn't work, we throw money at the next thing....lots do this for their entire lives. A cure would hurt the tinnitus industry in a big way. And I'm sure pharma that sell ADs and other drugs will stand in a way of a cure as well. Why would big pharma even care to sell a tinnitus pill for life? They sell many of us ADs and other shit for life anyway and they don't have to come up with anything new.

I think it's true that "we" haven't seen a bad result from a fast taper by anybody on this forum. By "we've" I just meant that I wasn't sure if undecided specifically had discussed the topic on this thread - we as in this thread.

But I see your point, it's not really a consensus, much is still experimental.

Christian, you are a brave man.
You take this drug and live with horrible side effects.
You are one of the first who tried Trobalt and have a lower T.
I really hope that T will stay low for you whatever you decide about your dosage.
And we all hope, Autifony goes in the same direction, but with less side effects.
And thank you for informing us.
Take care.

Right I managed to secure some trobalt, only like 2-3 months supply though and after that I won't be able to get anymore, sadly...But I'm gonna give it a go and see if it works.

Its simple really, They make more varieties of drugs they make more money. US government is giving out billions in disability payments for tinnitus and hearing loss. Big pharmacies are foaming at the mouth for that money to provide new treatments. There are plenty of incentives to come up with actual tinnitus cures or treatments. Big pharma doesn't care about putting those bs snake oil treatments out of business.

Wow, I just caught myself hoping there was more war so they invested more in tinnitus treatment research. What a twisted thing to think!

Yeah right...a depressed person with T is more profitable in the long run period, even to big pharma. Why would they want to cut into the AD market to swap with a better treatment/cure? People will take anything, look how many people will take retigabine, doesn't even have to be legit, people will buy it.

Keeping people sick is the goal, way more $$$

Think like a criminal and you will unlock the motives behind government and big pharma.

And if they are "foaming at the mouth" where is the investment capital? There would be billions sunk into this if this were the case...not a few million into a company that can barely update their web site.

I doubt whether anyone can answer... I believe Mpt reported that after two weeks he got way better, then continued getting better. I recall that Christian and Viking also had some quick results.
So, give it a couple of weeks.

Awesome! I'm guessing the effects are permanent and you can go off trobalt?

Does anyone know how long it takes for Trobalt to start working?
well it take 1,5 month
dosages of min 200 mg

I noticed that i have problem to see on distance, all became blurry, but now i noticed that i dont see nothing closer less than 10 cm from eyes, I had sharp vision, i did not need to have glasses.

Danny be specially carefull with the dosage, as a side effect you will have amnesia so its very easy to forget a pill or take a double dose as happened to christian with very bad results. I advice you to use an app for your phone to schedule that and also put the pills in group of 3 in the begining and later 6 or 9, whatever number of pills you take every day so you won't be in trouble with that

If you can't focus very close objects, that's a disfunction of ciliary muscle, it's used to focus near objects, almost all old people can't focus very near objects so thats why they use glasses to read and so, even when they had good vision all previous life. I guess it's a temporary effect related to muscles, maybe its too relaxed. Anyways, to be sure I would slowly taper off you are very worried about that.
How long have you been in max dosage? I think mtp was 2 months it that true? if you have been 2 months already you can taper off and see if some T. changes become permanent, and also see if side effects go away, in that case you can start again with a strict dosage plan. That were only my suggestions/advice, you take your decisions.
Wish you all the best
