Suicidal

I believe that the best chance at treating tinnitus is repairing the inner ear so regeneration or what not? I think most tinnitus cases are from acoustic trauma. I think repair of the inner ear would universally work for most people. The only question is how much the brain is a part of tinnitus so how would regeneration interact if at all with the brain? Does it, automatically?

I don't think neuromodulation does much or at least, not the current treatments. I have been here over a year and there's no update or progress with Neuromod or whatever fucking name they use now. It's a failure and a bunch of overhyped shit. I suppose the concern is that so many people have hope of something but the repair/regeneration treatments chance of working is unknown or has an unknown time frame? It's many years away. So, suicide or suffering are the only options for those with severe (i.e. excessively loud) tinnitus.

I am going to make a prediction about the Corona Virus. The US economy will slowly reopen, more people will get sick and die. It will close again. Trump will pass more economic stimuili bills.

This will repeat multiple times for the next 2-4 years before a cure (for Corona) is found.

It will show a painful lesson that biology class is not a science that you can skip and no amount of economic bail outs will change the poor scientific understanding on how viruses interact with an animals immune system.

Just like the old native America saying "The rich man will realize he cannot eat money" I'll say "the rich man will realize economic stimuli checks will not change the weak understanding of biological sciences" and after millions of people die I wonder if the world will learn it's lesson?

Probably not. Pandemic's prove my point about how little is known about biological sciences.

I am trying to get people in the suicide thread to realize they are nothing but an economic nuisance that is trying to be corrected. Don't expect help anytime soon. Disabled people are dying off due to Darwinian economic policies.
I think if people want to talk about the covid-1984 scamdemic, they should do it in another thread.

He's been threatening to commit suicide here for a year soon and encouraging others to commit the act.

Despicable.
The only despicable person here is you and your three 'friends' who agreed with you. Suicidal people don't always off themselves right away. It's a difficult process for reasons already explained before.

Does your tinnitus fluctuate? Has it ever become bearable in the past 6 months? That's the only thing that keeps me from going insane.

I have the base tinnitus which I recognize; but the volume fluctuates massively and at random seemingly, but the days where its at its lowest... man they are really the best, but it never lasts.

Like I woke up today with 7.5/10 tinnitus, then all of a sudden two hours later I'm playing DOTA and I get that random super loud tinnitus and deafness in my right ear. All of a sudden its dropped to a 6/10.

I don't get this shit.

You mentioned in the next post about being crippled from suicide, and that's why I'm so afraid of using the nitrogen method. Not because I'm clumsy and thing ill fail, but because of quantum immortality. That out of infinite universes there's one where I forget a crucial part of the process and become a vegetable.

Its unfortunate, but jumping off of a very high height seems the only way to guarantee 100% success across all universes. And that fucking sucks.
It doesn't fluctuate much anymore. It's rare. It did quite a bit during the first 3 months. I can barely recall when it really reduced in volume. For someone with tinnitus, it was significant. But, it was still at a level that would probably bother a normal person. Since it is impossible to describe, I can try to rate its severity. I guess maybe 2/10 to 4/10, at times.

Now, it is never that low. It's almost always 8 to 10/10 with rare fluctuations to 7/10, say, which lasts less than an hour but I never timed or logged any of this. Then the volume skyrockets again. I think it is worse as the evening gets later. However, it's typically extremely loud now and it's only 2:25 pm (as I post this).

Politics is the one subject that seems to just take over. I say this as a political minded person myself so I'm not immune either.
Same. I am not protesting it but think it's better in a political thread since it doesn't really associate with the topic here. I understand the point though that it might delay studies and trials. I am not arguing or disputing that point.

Dr. Thanos talked about this today on a zoomcast. A normal brain predicts sound vs what it hears (our visual system does this too). When the predictions don't match the input, you get tinnitus because the brain is trying to reconcile the two. Dr. Will Sedley talks about this too. If you restore input, the signals match again.

As to why some people get tinnitus from damage and some don't, some brains are better at this prediction which would normally be an advantage evolutionarily but it's a disadvantage when the system is damaged.

All that to say, restoring input will resolve the discrepancy. Or, tinnitus can be resolved potentially using Dr. Thanos's research which uses a compound to modulate the ion channels in the auditory neurons so that the brain to match actual sound from damaged cochleas with the brain's "predictions".

Tinnitus is not from brain damage. There are possible very unusual exceptions (e.g. Schizophrenia was mentioned today), though.

I'm more than familiar with those challenges. I just don't need convinced it's any more hopeless than I already do.

I objected to Contrast stating he's trying to convince people in this thread of it. It felt immoral. I appreciated his later clarification on the matter.

Don't people get tinnitus from concussions and such? Or is that actual inner ear damage because of the hit?
Good question. It seems like the cochlea could be impacted from that kind of trauma at the same time.

Brainstem injury directly I would guess could also do it.

Thanks, FGG. That was interesting.

Oh okay. I think Contrast is emphasizing how hopeless life is when you have a medical condition without any helpful treatment especially when you are physically suffering. I can't argue with that.

The entire model is based on DISCIPLINE.

People like @acute are currently being DISCIPLINED by the state in an attempt to modify and reform them back into the work force.

I'm not sure if I am experiencing auditory hallucinations or am I becoming schizophrenic or something, but my Tinnitus seems to have emerged with my thoughts. Sometimes, I hear my own thoughts echoing, and sometimes I can have a conversation with those weird echoing thoughts, because they make me laugh or make me scared. Other times, I just hear scary sounds from hell, etc.. It's all connected with my ear spasms, Tinnitus ringing and whooshing.

It's really weird, and I feel like a robot, because I can't stick to any scheme of thoughts or behaviour, because I hear many different things in my head, and it's impossible to be in some mood or concentrate on any task in real life.

It's so sad, how creative my brain is, and how much weird stuff it can create, but I have to just sit and do nothing, otherwise my Tinnitus will get worse, etc, etc..

How old are you if you don't mind me asking? There is a certain age range where Schizophrenia commonly begins from what I understand. If you think it's possible, might be a good thing to rule out.

I agree, so when do you think this hearing restoration wil be available? Best guess.

If everything continues the same, I hope I can off myself before 2021 begins. I don't want this life of suffering. I am also starting to experience facial pain and intense headache daily.

I'm more than a year with this tinnitus beast and it doesn't get better. I don't want to live anymore.
It will get better in year 3-4. Once you get better at sleeping with loud tinnitus, you will begin to feel better.

Imagine you boarded a flight.... ever notice how many people sleep on airplanes with 85dB ambient noise??? Granted, the flight never ends, but the ultimate goal is accept and try enjoy the ride.

How is Dr. Tzounopoulos's drug different from AUT-00063?

@Cookies & Cream

The things you have described in your post seem troubling to me. If you are having difficulty with them then please have a talk with your family doctor and hopefully get some help.

All the best
Michael

2-5 years seems to be what most people think and I don't see any reason to disagree with that. Possibly on the shorter end of that especially depending on if the FDA will allow skipped phases.

I predict Frequency, for example, will definitely have a phase 2b but the FDA might allow skipping phase 3 because there is no "standard of care" to compare the drug to and they are treating something with high morbidity. And if they ramp up manufacturing before release, it's also possible they would allow expanded/compassionate use even earlier.

I don't know much about the European approval process, so it's possible Audion could come out first, but their method results in retrofitted support cells becoming "hair cell like" cells and I am not sold on their method vs. Frequency's personally (but would love to be proven wrong here) which produces equivalent hair cells.

Synaptopathy drugs also seem to be in the same time frame.

This post is so encouraging and makes me feel more positive. So is Phase 3 essentially comparing it with existing treatments? Would that include hearing aids or just other pharmaceuticals (of which there are none so far for hearing loss) so I hope this phase can be expedited.

Traditional, yes. Phase 3 tends to be a large study comparing a new drug to existing treatments. I have a hunch this is one reason Frequency emphasizes repeatedly that hearing aids help with loudness only and their drug will help with clarity. It seems like they may be trying to even get it labelled for clarity (though it can be used off label once released).

And on the sets of new troubles and symptoms - earworms. I just can't shake these stupid songs from my head. Affecting my concentration, sleep and what not.
It's like my brain latches on these things and I obsess and obsess and obsess.
